Nigerians have been advised to show more interest in agriculture and also see it as a business, which can earn them more money.

This is the submission of the various speakers at the SME Think Tank Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Economic Development (SEED) conference in Lagos.

The conference brought together speakers ranging from agribusiness, information technology, financing and marketing.

Convener of the conference, Sola Dawodu, said the essence of the conference was to re-strategise people on how they can do their business, most especially during this economic recession, to stay ahead of the business.

He advised participants to be consistent and always be on top of their game, despite any challenge they may face while doing the business.

Tade Falade, Managing Director of Kingsway Quality Foods, encouraged more Nigerians to go into agriculture, while sharing his experience in agro-processing, stressing that this is the way to go now since oil is not forthcoming.

Falade, who is also the Managing Director of the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Integrated Farming Project, said Nigeria is blessed with vast land and human beings and that the country is very prosperous in agro-industry, adding that Nigeria may not be able to compete in other areas but can compete in agro-processing and can also do well in agro-industrialization which is the combination of agriculture and agro-processing.

Speaking on the LCCI integrated farming project, he said LCCI did a collaborative meeting with the Lagos State government in ensuring that Nigerians take advantage of agribusiness by looking at the large scale farming, large scale farm estate and ensuring that Nigeria be the best for it through agro-processing.

Another speaker, Managing Director of Highhill Agribusiness Development Centre, Adeniyi Sola Bunmi, said we need to understand that agriculture has come to stay, adding that agriculture should be seen as business.

He said it is high time Nigerian begun to take agriculture as a business because it is the next solution for this country.

He said, based on the body language of this present administration, agriculture will change the face of this country.

“We need to understand that agriculture has come to stay, agriculture is a business and we need to start taking it as a business. Agriculture is the next solution for this country”.

“Based on the body language of the present government, I think agriculture will change the face of this country”, he added.

Otunba Femi Oke, Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos State chapter, advised participants to make judicious use of the knowledge they gathered at the conference so as to be better persons.

With the success experienced last year, we can’t but further activate our impact as to growing businesses, a move which have necessitated another series 2 of the conference.
